COUNTRY STYLE BLOG SERIES: NO EXCUSE, KEEP YOUR DIET GOING

Image
No Excuse, Keep your Diet going! I’m sure it’s ok to say there’s a lot of tension out there as a result of the Covid-19 Pandemic and it’s gradually dragging our attention and making us deviate from doing it right just because we want to eat for pleasure. The truth is it shouldn’t take so much to do it right with food. The major factor and question surrounding what you eat are: • how do you eat ? • what you eat ? • and why you eat it ? Well in this Pandemic it might be easy to ignore this (3) three factors cause we might  be too concern with eating just anything! Which is so wrong!!! Trust me you can still self isolate and eat right. Do not just eat that food cause you home all day and you need to eat. Do not mess up that diet you have been on for long just because you home! You might just be headed for a long term incubated fat that will be hard to burn out...   Now do this right: Make a line up of all the food you have and make sure it consists of: • Vegetabl

LIFE THROUGH MY EYES: FINDING YOU 4

Image
Finding You 4 Ben had collected my number that day. It had taken a while. Me trying to play hard to this guy that made me feel excited all over. And him? Whatever he was thinking that day, I have no idea. He had texted me a simple message “hi”. I had stared at it for a while thinking of a proper response. I replied with “hello” after three hours. Then I had laid on my bed thinking what his next message was going to be, he hadn’t texted that day and the next day when he had, I had rushed towards my phone like it was Santa with my Christmas gift. It had been him asking how I was and how my Saturday was going to look like. Ben and I had started hanging out after a while. Thinking about it, I don't we made plans to. It just happened. For a while it was just as friends.  Honestly, I had been confused. I had thought he was interested in me romantically, and there he was treating me like a sibling. But then it had changed with the “do you have a boyfriend” question. I was excit

I know we are all trying to stay safe and all but please stay safe and protect others too. Don't wear gloves for the whole part of the day, then try to give someone with that same hands still in gloves. We

HOW TO NOT JUST SURVIVE BUT THRIVE? We've been asked to practice self isolation and social distancing, the question now is "How do we not just survive but thrive?" A lot of people are ready to just let this "opportunity" in the guise of a bad situation slide and half of them just want to scream "boredom" on social media. What we should be doing with this time is to increase our skill set, becone become at our current trade, find more efficient ways to offer services, focus on the aspects of your job that you aren't excellent in and tgen "practice, practice, practice, practice and practice some more. ALKALI AMANA’S BOARD: THE CORONA EFFECT

Image
*THE CORONA EFFECT* You can see the literal fear in everybody's eyes. The world is in a frenzy given the recent turn of events to which it has never been accustomed.  Maybe, the world has experienced a shutdown of this magnitude before but not without the direct hand of a supernatural being and that was in ancient times if one may say. Here, however is a shutdown in modern times that has never been experienced before. Even science shirked at the first instance admitting the novelty of the situation confronting it. The harbinger of an untimely exit is what faces the respective governments of the world with regards to their citizens. Think about it. What could have caused such powerful outbreak, string enough to melt the world in every ramification. Socially, we are distancing ourselves from each other. Physically, everyone abhors contact at the moment. Mentally and educationally, we are challenged by this novel virus. Emotionally, we are left distraught. Economically, all sect

LIFE THROUGH MY EYES: FINDING YOU

Image
Finding You (3) After I resumed studies at the university, I was a little terrified. I knew I had siblings who were there, but that still didn’t stop the feelings that wanted to drown me. I was antisocial and staying in a place with people from various walks of life didn’t sit well with me. Grace, my roommate and also departmental mate had been a life saver. Through her help, I had learned to let down my guards a little and explore the walls of the institution. In my first year, they had been all sorts of events, especially for us fresher and even though I hadn’t felt like attending any, Grace had pressured me to. “A right to passage” she had called them. It was in one of these events I had met Ben. They had called it “fresher’s night” and after hours of cajoling from roommates, I had agreed to go. Another reason was because I didn’t want to be the only one in the room that night. I had worn a dress mother had gotten for me and it hadn’t been fancy, mother was not known for her f

FASHION TABLE: SOME DARTS EVERY SEWIST NEEDS TO KNOW

Image
Some Darts Every Sewist Needs to Know Hey guys, we're back with a follow up piece on darts. We already explained what darts are earlier, so please revert to our post from a few weeks ago and catch up quickly. Now where were we? Darts are often found in women's clothing at the neck, bust, waist, hips and elbow (surprising right?). They are also used in men's trousers and jackets, they primarily serve a functional purpose — to fit the contours of the garment to your body in a flattering way. That said they can also create style lines or designs and not all darts are the same. These are simply the most commonly used ones you'll find in your favorite-fitting outfits. 1. Standard Darts It's the most common type of dart, is sometimes referred to as a plain dart and it is usually used at the bust or waist (some patterns have both to create a fitted bodice) . A standard dart is open at one end, often looking like a triangle on the fabric or pattern piece. It c

MY OPEN DIARY: WHAT DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO SEE WHEN THEY MEET YOU❤️

Image
Its been a minute but today isn’t our day to meet, but amidst the days activities i thought to share, over tome i have come to the realization everyone in the world is watching one person or the other and attaching so much value and interpretation to what ever that person does. And if indeed we are not living a selfish life and we are working towards making the world a better place then we must be conscious of our choices and what actions they result to. If someone was to meet you just once and they were meant to have a life long impression of your personality and it was to be something they will have to add to their principle set, what impression would you want to leave them with??? I always want to spread Love, ignite Joy and encourage Growth wherever i am found ? Let me know about you below👇🏾   Also... COVID-19 We shall in due time continue with the Rocky episode, but for now, let's talk something else. The global pandemic keeping everyone shut at the dining table - the Coronavirus. It is enough to hear of its effects, but the real question is - What is Coronavirus? Below, I provide us with a report by the World Health Organization about the virus: Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). INSIDE LIFE WITH GBEMI: ACCEPT THE CALL

Image
ACCEPT THE "CALL" On my way to work this morning, the preacher in the bus said something that struck my heart. He was urging those who have the "call" to ministry to accept. He said "if pastors like Oyedepo,  Kumuyi, Adeboye, etc. refused to heed the "call" of God, many souls would have perished and meant will still be perishing". Hmm, how true this is. Imagine if Oyedepo refused to heed God's call... Most people are refusing to heed their "call". It might not be a call to go into ministry or start a church, it might be a call to become a teacher or a medical practitioner or a singer or a fashion designer or a hair stylist or even a nanny. It's funny right but seriously imagine if Rhoda hadn't heed the "call" to become a blogger (I wouldn't have thought of putting my writing skills to the test ). You might be thinking "what it's my call? what am I meant to do in life?". Your call is actually

FASHION TABLE: HOW TO SEW A PENCIL SKIRT

Image
HOW TO SEW A PENCIL SKIRT (part 2) We're back to our DIY segment on this section of the blog, let's finish making our pencil skirts. Sewing Procedure 1. Sew darts on each piece (3 inches from the middle and 4 inches deep). 2. Join the two back pieces with half inch sewing allowance. 3. Start the joining 7 inches from top (the top 7 inches is where you'll plce your zip). Join from that 7inches mark and stop at the skirt half length mark. 4. Fold in the remaining space between the skirt half length mark and the skirt full length mark as a slit (this isn't necessary for a stretchy material, cos they don't need slits for ease). 5. Sew in the zip in the 7inch space. 6. Place the back piece of the skirt on the front and mark out measurements for waist and hip (dividing the measurements by 2). 7. Remove 2-4 inches from the hip measurement to get the fitting around the knees. 8. Join the skirt following the marked lines. 9. Fix your band on the joined skirt.

AUTOCARE: TRANSMISSION SYSTEM 2

Image
Transmission system 2 In this session, we shall discuss the axle, which transmits power to the wheel. It plays a crucial role in the movement of a vehicle. Propeller Shaft. This is a shaft which transmits power from an engine to the wheels of a motor vehicle. It is a hollow tubular shaft and consists of mainly three parts 1. Shaft: It mainly bears torsional stress produced due to twisting. It is usually made of tubular cross section. 2. Universal joints: One or two universal joints are used, depending on the type of rear axle drive used. The universal joints help in the up and down movements of the rear axle when the vehicle is in running condition. 3. Slip joint: Depending on the type of drive, one slip joint may be there in the shaft. This serves to adjust the length of the propeller shaft when demanded by the rear axle movements. Front and Rear Axle Front axle Front axle carries the weight of the front portion of the automobile as well as facilitates steering and

LIFE THROUGH MY EYES- FINDING YOU 2

Finding You (2) My father had been quite different from my mother. While my mother had been a force of nature, father had been quiet. He had been in the military and one can’t help but ponder how he coped there. I mean one had a ideal view about the military, being so brash and forceful, everything so authorative but there was father, an exact opposite. Mother would have been best suited. Father had died that year I wrote my jamb exams. No one had seen it coming. No one ever saw death coming. It had been accident and for a while the whole house had been bleak. Mourning period had come and gone and I guess we returned to our own kind of normal. “Aunty Jane, grandma says food is ready” I hear a voice say behind me. I turn to see my niece; Beatrice. Beatrice is Sarah’s and clocking ten next month. She’s the older of the two and quite got a mouth on her. “Thanks darling” I say with a smile and draw her closer to me. “Is that grandpa?” she asked shyly and I acknowledged with a n

PARADIGM: CHASING SHADOWS

Image
Paradigm Chasing Shadows She wants to run, So bad, it hurts; The emptiness she feels, The void she can't fill; Her heart frozen, Her brain on heat; Stuck in between the folds, Of reality and Dream, Distracted by fantasies; Forlorn Hopes, Reaching to be free; From ties that hold her, History against her, A future that seems more like a film, Time outruns her, Darkness befriends her, Helplessness enslaves her, Her sun hidden in the clouds; No light, Just shadows and Brim. She wonders, What it is to be free; Is it all rainbows and ice cream; Or its another illusion that's just another prison; Of hopes and dreams; When will the cycle end? Will the void ever be filled? Or she's just chasing Shadows? A pointless race that still ends beneath Earth's surface. INSIDE LIFE WITH GBEMI: NAMES!!!

Image
NAMES! NAMES!! NAMES!!! When you meet a person for the first time and you want to get to know that person, the first thing to do is to get the person's name. In this thing called life, name is actually very important. In fact, your name is your identity. Some tribes in Nigeria, particularly the Yoruba tribe are very meticulous about names. This is why they sometimes tend to give their children names according to the circumstances surrounding their birth e.g. names like "Abidemi" are given to children whose fathers were not around when they were born, or "Babtunde" or they give very long names (names that the space given on waec answer sheet could not contain😁 e.g "Jesuwapelumititilai"😂). I remember then in 2015 when parents were all giving their kids Goodluck because of the former president of Nigeria. Any 5 year old child bearing Goodluck was born during Goodluck Evele Jonathan's time as president. I once met a little boy called "Overt

LIFE THROUGH MY EYES: FINDING YOU

Image
Finding You *Ping* A text from my mother and all i could feel was the jolt that travelled around my body. It says “don’t forget lunch this Sunday”. As if i could ever. This text comes up every Friday and even though i have told her severally that was no need to keep sending me such messages, she still hadn’t got the memo. “You are always working” her words not mine and if you are a good code breaker, there are several lines after this that says “that’s why you haven’t found a husband” I come from a family of five, seven if you are counting the parents and while I’m not the oldest, i aren’t the youngest either. You could find me in the third place in the family tree, between a boy and a girl on each side. My eldest sister, Sarah is married with two kids while our youngest just got engaged. The more reason why all faces has turned to me. I mean severally, I’ve heard aunties question my mother why the youngest daughter has to get married before her eldest. My mother had been lo
