FASHION TABLE WITH STEPHANIE: HOW TO WEAR YOUR JEANS (part 2)

Image
HOW TO WEAR YOUR JEANS (part 2) We're still on this denim wearing matter yard people. So let's talk further on how to wear your jeans to complement your body structure.   Curvy Figure If you have a curvy figure, the best way to flatter your shape is to show it off. Don’t try to hide your curves behind loose styles, such as boyfriend jeans. The excess fabric will only serve to make you look larger than you are. Highlight your feminine shape with jeans such as skinnies and lightly flared shapes. For the most flattering look choose dark-wash denim with a mid to high-rise. Column Figure Column figures have an athletic appeal but can look a little masculine if not dressed correctly. To flatter your column figure, choose styles that will create shape and curves for you. Try skinny and mom styles that feature a mid to high-rise to create waist definition. The slim fit of these styles will also help highlight the curves of your thighs, accentuating the feminine aspects of your shape...

MY OPEN DIARY: HOT, COLD & LUKE WARM

Image
I am sure I ain’t the only one who sees their WhatsApp status as a way to express raw/fresh thoughts i mean basically share on the go.... ~ As much i have toned down on this I recently shared something on there, that I would like to share with you, one of the hardest truths for this generation to accept is the fact that there is no in-between when it comes to God, there is no I Love Jesus but I still do so and so once in a while or I am a Christian but this part of the bible doesn’t sit right with me, I’m gonna have a meeting with the host of heaven on this one😂😂😂 ~ There is HOT, There is COLD but LUKEWARM IS A NO NO! Will we make mistakes? ABSOLUTELY! Will we have bumps on the way? Na normal level! But we must intentionally and consistently work towards our growth. ~ Phil 2:12 (MSG) “What I’m getting at, friends, is that you should simply keep on doing what you’ve done from the beginning. When I was living among you, you lived in responsive obedience. Now that I’m separated fr...

LIFE AS IT IS: BRO CODE

Image
BRO CODE I've never understood the bro code thingy. I know many have called me weird because of how different I see the world, but then that has never bothered me one bit. I'm sorry to say that I have accepted the weirdness with my full? Nah...broad shoulders. I hate labels and I really don't want anyone to call me a feminist. There is a simple meaning to that word and then, there are a whole bunch of other meanings I'm confused about and trying to understand. I hope I'm able to. So I'm going to say it here and now that I'm for equality for both sexes. When my favorite Harry Potter character, Hermonine (Emma Waston), 'Sorry Harry' became an ambassador for the He4She movement, I followed it back to back and honestly I learned a lot of things.  I for one know how women are being treated in the society. Few times I'm not gonna lie, it has been an advantage to them and then, there are lots of times where it has been a disadvantage. One thing I cons...

INSIDE LIFE WITH GBEMI: SMALL BEGINNINGS

Image
SMALL BEGINNINGS As a young adult, one of the many challenges you might face is making decisions for your future. You are at that crossroad where the decision you make might either make or mar your future. Aside this challenge, you are now faced with the dilemma to suceed immediately especially in this generation where the "quick-success" bug has bitten almost everyone. Well, one thing you should remember is that you need to make sure you are pursuing your passion and not what you feel will make you "blow" quick.  Passion brings fulfillment that eveoney can't buy. Never doubt yourself and if you are having this self doubt seek advice from people who understand better and most impprtantly never forget the place of the Almighty Creator in your life. So, instead of waiting and expecting that miracle to vome your way, take that plunge and learn that skill, improve yourself, it will come handy someday. Remember not to despise the days of small beginning, for the Lo...

FASHION TABLE WITH STEPHANIE: HOW TO WEAR YOUR JEANS

Image
HOW TO WEAR YOUR JEANS  We're still on this denim wearing matter yard people. So let's talk on how to wear your jeans to complement your body structure.  As one of the best fashion investments one can make, you have to buy the one that flatters your figure. You can keep them for years and, although they may fade or rip, they’re still totally wearable.  Hourglass Figure Most styles of jeans look good on you if you’re lucky enough to have an hourglass figure. If you want to really flatter your figure, however, high-waisted mom jeans or skinny jeans are best. Skinny jeans will cling to the curves of your legs, highlighting your feminine shape. Mom jeans, on the other hand, will draw eyes to your defined waist.  Pear Figure Women with pear figures tend to have a smaller bust and larger hips/thighs, so it’s important to create balance with shapes. If you have a pear figure, avoid high-waisted jeans as they will be unflattering to your figure. Instead, opt for low t...

AUTOCARE WITH DAMILARE: BAD DRIVING HABITS TO AVOID

Image
BAD DRIVING HABITS TO AVOID A lot of accident on the road are caused by avoidable bad driving habit drinking while driving, not obeying traffic signs, using your phone while driving among all others, listed below are other bad habit that we need to correct on the road Distracted Driving Distracted driving is any activity that involves drivers looking away from the road, including talking, eating and adjusting the radio – but smartphones have taken distracted driving to a new level. Quite a lot of people were killed in distracted driving accidents. Cell phone use poses a special threat because it involves high-attention activities like texting, surfing the internet, and even taking selfies while driving. Using cell phones while driving is so pervasive (and deadly) that drivers of all ages are pledging to not text and drive. Driving While Tired Driving while tired has similar effects as drunk driving: slower reaction times, decreased awareness and impaired decision making. Drowsy driving...

LIFE AS IT IS: BOOM! YOU WIN!!

Image
BOOM! YOU WIN!! When I was a little boy, I had difficulty learning how to read. I don't know if that would qualify as a disability because here I am now reading everything that comes across my part. My father was part of the Nigerian Navy so we spent most of my childhood in the barracks; and no I'm not a barrack kid if you know what I mean. I'm more like a nerd kid, that's if there was a camp with nerdy people. Lol. So like I said I had difficulty learning how to read. There was a teacher of mine who would make fun of me for that fact. They called her Mrs Monye. I don't know if she knew how hurtful she was being but it was really embarrassing being that kid. Fast forward to years later and one of the things people know me for is "Abdul, you too dey read"  It's really beautiful how one moment you are down and the next you are on top. This little story of mine is my message for the weekend. To never give up on yourself. I know you must have heard it a c...

GLIMPSE OF HOPE: MAXIMIZING RELATIONSHIPS

Image
MAXIMIZING RELATIONSHIPS I will like to define relationship for the purpose of this article as the connection of people by virtue of short or long term interaction that has developed into a network.  I've realized that most of the people we ever met & stayed connected to in life were people we met in school; either at primary, secondary or tertiary level. The other people we met are from neighborhood, church & the rest but whichever way a relationship has been established.  How we handle those moments we spent together affects the profitability and future of that relationship. Most of the favor & connection you'll get at pivotal moments in life are from long term relationships because life won't give you the luxury of time to build anything tangible that moment, what becomes your saving grace is the investment you've made in past relationships.  We must deliberately invest in present relationships because our future lays in it, the future of our children ...

INSIDE LIFE WITH GBEMI: BE YOURSELF

Image
BE YOURSELF One of the many things my late dad taught me was to fall in love with my name. Like I practically love writing my names on everything that belongs to me and scribbling it even on desks. My mum still teases me about it. One thing I re alized from this habit was that I am who I am, not anyone else. My name and identity belongs to me and I should proudly own it. This realization helped me overcome peer pressure growing up  (apart from the fact that I was too lazy to indulge 😄😄 ).  I know owning up to yourself can be a little bit challenging especially living in a world where everyone is expected to make immediately, drive the latest cars, own the latest mansions, wear the latest designers fashion, use the latest phones and then upload them all on social media. However, not everyone will “blow” at the same time.  The fact that you are not there yet doesn’t mean you won’t be there tomorrow. So, do your best, take a chill pill, relax, drink enough water and...

FASHION TABLE WITH STEPHANIE: HOW TO STYLE YOUR DENIM (JEAN) TROUSER

Image
HOW TO STYLE YOUR DENIM (JEAN) TROUSER If you love “wearing the pants” (i.e. the in-charge feeling a jean gives you), then get even bossier with trouser jeans. You can style it for daytime and seamlessly transition to happy hour.  With a Blazer:  Build out a suiting look by pairing jeans trouser with a blazer and an easy knit tank. Have some fun by adding a statement shoe with a strong accent and—BAM!—you’re good to take names all day long.  With a Blouse, Polo or T-shirt: This style can carry you into the weekend if coupled with a retro sneaker and easy cotton blouse. And here's a fit tip: You'll get more mileage out of these jeans if the length is versatile enough to wear with a low heel and a sneaker.  With a normal Top or a Dress Shirt: Play off this style with a super feminine top, like a ruched tank. Then, add a low-heel pump in a bright color that peeks out from under the hem. Try matching your lip shade to the color of your shoes for an extra power pun...

AUTOCARE WITH DAMILARE: BAD HABITS THAT CAN DAMAGE YOUR CAR

Image
BAD HABITS THAT CAN DAMAGE YOUR CAR Neglecting Warning Signs When something's going wrong with your car, chances are it will try to tell you. Any strange vibrations, intermittent squeaks, occasional knocks, or other unusual symptoms should be inspected right away. You might not feel any problems but the longer you wait, the more trouble you could be in if a part suddenly fails and you're left stranded on the side of the road. Riding the Brakes Downtown Sometimes you've got to brake when going downhill to keep from going way too fast. But this causes heat to build up in the brake pads and rotors, causing wear and increasing the risk that they will overheat or warp. As a solution, try shifting into a lower gear. The natural decompression that occurs in the drive train will help keep the car at a safe speed. That way, if you do need to hit the brakes, you'll find they're more effective. Carrying Too Much Weight The more a car weighs, the more stress it places on its dr...

ALKALI AMANA’S BOARD: MARK YOUR GREATNESS

Image
MARK YOUR GREATNESS Hello friend, Tell me, what is the joy in giving up? Is there a momentary satisfaction of relief? From my experience, no. Is there a guarantee of better-ness? No, again, from my experience. My sermon today is not all about you not giving up. That has been preached many times. There’s an aspect to it I don’t see around so much. The part that tells you how great you are. The part that assures you and makes you know you are on the right track. One thing to note before we continue. This is exclusive of pride. This is also exclusive of ego or any form of haughtiness. Rather, it is perfunctory of instinct and an assurance that you can be who you want to be regardless of any limit or barrier. It results from faith, a sort of faith which leads fate, that’s where it stems from. For the spiritual side of things, your creator or maker didn’t put you up here so you could be mediocre or little. For the one who we believe owns the universe, don’t you think you do him a grea...

PARADIGM: Masterpiece

Image
Paradigm Masterpiece Touch me once; Shame on you; Touch me twice, Shame on me; Swear on his holy word, That you let me be! Dance in the blood of my toil, That you look the other way; Guilt and pleasure, Sin and mischief; Love and Light, Where are thou? Bear me witness! The earth has turned its back; The moon has shielded it's eye, The sun has refused to rise; To be woman or to be a tin, Take my opinion;  Please make it count! All I am, Is a woman entrapped; Let me be! Society free my heart, Let my brain spark and let my words fly; Son of Adam, Don't hold me back! We both have sinned, I am not the only one that was cursed so don't put me down! What am I? The voices of women enslaved by their mind, tied by their pack; I want to be free, Free to be his masterpiece. This was inspired by something I watched happen few days ago, I see things like that more often than I'd like, but this day I felt so trapped on her behalf. Normal day at Work(Yes, writing doesn't feed me;...

MY OPEN DIARY: DECISIONS DECISIONS

Image
As i type this, i am having a conversation with a friend on WhatsApp about what it means to put out a timely message, how do i put out the message some one needs to hear at the right time and not a message that simply sounds cool or smart to me .... So many ideas have crossed my mind in the past few days but i just couldn’t bring my self to make a choice on what to write about, but as i type this i am thinking about how many other people are struggling with making one decision or the other from decisions as small as what to eat to decisions about relationships, business moves and more, and they are saying what do i do? I want to assure you that God is always speaking and he is interested in your life your choices as little as choices on what to eat, to life changing decisions, and he is always speaking to you through his word, through the people he has placed in your life and to your spirit, you won’t always hear a large voice but i assure you that if you submit yourself to ...

THE SOJOURNER’S DIARY

Image
I celebrated my birthday three days ago. Did I even celebrate it? I was on such a low mood. Broke as a ceramic plate thrown off a roof. Nothing seemed to be going right. I even cried at some point 😂😂😂 But that was me being stupid and I didn't realize it till I woke up the next morning and realized I had become a year older and here I was still standing. I realized I was an ingrate. People took out their time to call, text, make posts, my brother sent me a thousand naira for glo subscription that finished that day that day 😂  Mehn... A dear friend even ordered a frame, the one you see at the top of this post for me all the way from Abuja to Lokoja and you know the icing on the cake, na Anyigba she de (boom!) 😏  I woke up in the morning the day after and realized I was loved not just by men, but by God. I had come a long way from where I was a year before and even although if I think about it now, I actually spent money on my birthday last year in comparison to this y...

GLIMPSE OF HOPE: THE VIRTUE OF ADEQUATE PREPARATION

Image
THE VIRTUE OF ADEQUATE PREPARATION  There's a popular saying that "proper private preparation prevents poor public performance" Everything in life must be adequately & deliberately prepared for, no task should be embarked on without a thorough knowledge & preparedness.  Once upon a time, I was asked to give a presentation on a particular topic & I went into research. They were things I knew but still I had to reinforce them into me and the delivery was superb. Adequate preparation first & foremost knocks off fear, it gives you a form of confidence to face that task. Any student who didn't read for an examination would be under pressure.  Prepare for the stages of your life, don't leave anything to chance. Be conscious about what you want and prepare towards it. Prepare towards adulthood, prepare towards your finance, prepare towards marriage & family life; prepare.  You can start by laying a plan for each day and towards any project. This w...

LIFE AS IT IS: THIRD WHEEL

Image
THIRD WHEEL When I was growing up, I had lots of resements towards my brother. He's younger than me so by the time he was born, I was two years and some months. I felt neglected, God's truth and it really hurt me. I remember when I was four or so, my mother had left the barracks to go pick up my sisters from my dad's cousin place in Ajegunle. We had returned from a trip to Port Harcourt which they hadn't gone with us. My mother had left me in the barracks feeling she couldn't carry two children along with her. I had cried following her to the barracks main gate when she had carefully told the gateman not to let me out. I had then cried my way back home, and then I had gattered every stone I could find and stoned our house until the tears stopped. I was a stoner, and not the weed kind (cover face) The funny thing is that I didn't really get the attention much after. We lost our mother two years after this incident. And even after that, I still got angry with hi...

INSIDE LIFE WITH GBEMI: UP AND GRATEFUL

Image
UP AND GRATEFUL If there is one thing this year has thought me, it’s that we should never give up on life and be grateful. Imagine starting a new  year/ the beginning of a  decade with high expectations  and all of a sudden life decided to act up and threw its own curves to all our straight and clear path.  Well, instead of bemoaning all your woes, remember that saying “when life throws lemons at you, make lemonades out of them”.  So pick yourself up, put a smile on your face and forge ahead. Not everyone had the opportunity to have come this far. Dwell on your gains and not on your losses. Only then will you be forever grateful… It’s never too late to wish you all a Happy  and Fruitful  New Month!! !😘😘   Post by : Ojole Omogbeminiyi Rotade Facebook: Ojole Gbemi Rotade Instagram: rotade_o Twitter: @rotadegbemmy JOIN THE COMMUNITY!!! FASHION TABLE WITH STEPHANIE:WORK THE WORK, TALK THE TALK (part 2)

Image
WORK THE WORK, TALK THE TALK (part 2) "Study to show yourself approved..." Everybody knows that line, but we streamline it most times. In every line of work there are accepted words or vocabulary for some things, using the right terms make you more professional and fashion is not out of it.   We had this conversation earlier in the year and I felt like bringing it back wouldn't be a bad idea, because the idea is still valid.  So let's check out a few words that'll spice up our fashion vocabulary.  A-Line : A dress or skirt silhouette that is narrower at the top, flaring gently out to make an ‘A’ shape silhouette. Flattering on most figures in particular pear shapes.  Some people call this A-shape also.  Asymmetric:  An asymmetric design is a garment in which one side is long than the other. Asymmetric cuts are common in necklines, collars and hems. Some people call this "High-Low" and I feel obligated to correct them, just imagine how knowledgeable/w...

AUTOCARE WITH DAMILARE: Transmission fluid

Image
Transmission fluid Transmission refers simply to the gearbox that uses gear and gear trains to provide speed and torque conversions from a rotating power source (engine) to another device (wheels). Transmission fluid is used to lubricate the components of a car’s transmission for optimum performance. Types of transmission fluids A variety of fluids are used for different transmissions. Your car’s transmission can either be automatic or manual. Automatic transmissions use automatic transmission fluid (ATF). The right use of automatic transmission fluid is highly dependent on the technology of your car’s transmission: traditional, CVT, DCT/DSG, etc.). These are quite specific in application. Manual Transmission (most of them) use a variety of oils that have the API specification GL-4. To ensure that you are using the correct fluid for your car’s transmission, please consult your owner's manual. Why you need transmission fluid? It's very important that the fluid in your transmissi...

ALKALI AMANA’S BOARD: THE CLIMATE CHANGE MOVEMENT

Image
THE CLIMATE CHANGE MOVEMENT Today, officially I make an entry into the scene on climate change activism after having studied and devoted my time to the climate happenings around me, not too far in the immediate environment. The lack of rain, the humid atmosphere, the blazing sun, the contaminated and polluted air mixed with carbon and other dangerous elements which have the potential of staying for hundreds of years in the atmosphere before degrading (i.e. if they ever degrade) – all these represent the crumbling state to which we ebb as we remain obstinate and unyielding to the call of change to let the air breathe. Take a look around you. The sun seems to be getting hotter. There is a seeming imbalance in the way rainfall is distributed across the climes. Sometimes it looks as though it is shifting away from some certain regions. Thus, you will see places where clouds abide for hours or days (intermittently coming and going) without pouring down their contents. I have heard peo...

PARADIGM

Image
Paradigm Hey... Its been a while; Its been a rough few months, To give myself a pat in the head;I think i did pretty well considering. I learned a few things about life. Few things to note about me, let's just say growing up, I haven't been lucky enough to meet a lot of good hearted people so along the line, I generally had low expectations when it comes to people hence I tend to rely mostly on myself and God, mostly God cause you know there's not really much I can do except use my dark sense of humour to make sense out of life, and to be honest i think my sense of humor is lit ?legit? bang?? Or whatever the youngsters say these days. First, I had to live without a phone for nearly three weeks (humbling experience that one), I was admitted in the hospital for the first time in my life( now I've lost the bragging rights for this at home and now the last born is the present champion #eye roll). My Laptop decided to show me who the boss is, I can tell you it failed cos I s...
