TUESDAY TALKS WITH GBEMI : What are you scared of??

Image
WHAT ARE YOU SCARED OF? We all have fears. Everyone is scared of something. And there different reasons why we become afraid. You will be surprised at the weird phobias people have. Ranging from the fear of heights to the fear of water to the fear the dark to the fear of syringes or needles, fear of flying, fear of traveling, fear of insects, e.t.c. I for one have a fear for syringes and needles (trypanophobia). I think this fear started when I was little. I still don't know the nurse that used my little buttocks to practice giving injections. Like for a week straight I couldn't seat or use the potty... It was tragic. Ever since then, nothing called injections of any strings or needles comes my way willingly. I don't go close to where vaccines in form of needles are being taken willingly. I'm always forced to. I know we are all about face your fears and the likes but seriously it is not easy to face your fears o, especially when it is a phobia for one thing or the o...

TUESDAY TALKS WITH GBEMI : PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE

Image
TUESDAY TALKS WITH GBEMI PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE Virtue: morally good behavior or character; a good and moral quality; the good result that comes from something. Hello TTB followers, happy new month!!! Welcome to yet another edition of Tuesday Talks with Gbemi. Today's edition will be a little bit more of an advice. So the other day I was at the ATM and all of a sudden two guys started fighting over who to use the ATM first. After hurling insults for about 10 minutes and wasting every other persons'time (including mine) on the queue, one of them later conceded to allow the other person use the machine. It was kind of funny to watch them drag and fight over who to use the machine first and at the end only one person was able to use it that particular time. I mean why not just be patient in the first place, at least the energy they used to fight would have been conserved and others on the queue wouldn't have been delayed unnecessarily.  Most times everyone is always in a h...

TUESDAY TALKS WITH GBEMI BEWARE OF ROVE BEETLES!!! Hello TTB lovers, welcome to another edition of Tuesday Talks With Gbemi. So today, makes it a week since I was stung by the rove beetle and trust me, the experience was not pleasant at all. Infact, I had a rough week battling with the aftermath of the incident and so today, I'll be enlightening us on this insect. The Rove beetle commonly known as "skirt and blouse" is a red/orange and black coloured insect that can be found in virtually every habitat, It usually lives near drainage lines and watercourses. During the daytime, rove beetles can be seen crawling around on the ground, with their wings hidden, and can resemble ants. Adult rove beetles are predators of other insects and at night are frequently encountered around light sources, hence while it is also referred to as the "electric insect".  Rove beetles do not bite or sting but their blood contains a strong toxin called pederin that can cause ski...

TUESDAY TALKS WITH GBEMI: This Accent thing, Na By Force????

Image
THIS ACCENT THING, NA BY FORCE? Back then in secondary school, we had this subject called “Elocution” where external teachers come in to teach us how to speak in the “right diction”. It was educating and mostly entertaining to hear Nigerians who are not bred abroad trying to teach you how to speak right and twist your tongue to a particular accent. Then in school it was made compulsory we speak in the right diction to the extent that our normal greetings to teachers changed. Even with all the wahala our principal did, most of us still maintained our normal accent. I can remember vividly then that my Economics teacher told us in class that most of us that are refusing to adopt to speaking in the right diction will be the ones who will eventually get to the university and change our names from Funke to Mirabel. His predictions partially came true. Imagine me getting to the university and meeting people trying to twist tongues to speak the American accent. I am not against it, in fact...

TUESDAY TALK WITH GBEMI: LOST (A tale of societal pressure, domestic abuse)

Image
LOST She was frustrated, she was exhausted. She was tired of waiting for the “right” man. She was in her mid-thirties. Her time was running out. All her friends are married with at least two kids. There was pressure from her parents, friends and relatives to get married. She was a successful lady and a devout christian, money was not a problem, getting married was. God’s delay is never His denial, people say. This morning, she woke up feeling hopeful. She had a dream last night were she was dressed in a white wedding gown, getting ready to walk down the aisle. She knelt and prayed, “Lord let this dream of mine become a reality”. With that, she went about her daily routine to get ready for work. On her way back home from work, she had a flat tire. She tried reaching her mechanic but he was unavailable. She also tried to flag down other vehicles, none stopped. Suddenly, the clouds opened and it began to rain with a vengeance. She sat in her car and prayed for a miracle to happen. She...

TUESDAY TALKS WITH GBEMI: Know Your Rights

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!!! (PART 1) Hello guys, welcome to Tuesday Talks with Gbemi, the first of its kind!!! Today we will be discussing on the basic fundamental human rights of a Nigerian... I'm sure most of us know we have rights as humans in Nigeria but we are not familiar with them or we ignored these rights. We have many fundamental rights as humans but today, we will be discussing just some of them especially the ones that tend to be ignored or easily forgotten.... The first one I'll be talking on is the *right to life*. Everyone has the right to life and no one should be deprived of this intentionally. The only exception to this is if a person is found guilty of a grievous criminal offence and is sentenced to death(section of 33 of the 1999 constitution). Mind you, a person is not guilty of any offence until proved otherwise by the court of law. Another fundamental right is the right to freedom of movement. Every citizen of Nigeria is entitled to move freely without restri...
