AUTOCARE WITH DAMILARE: BAD DRIVING HABITS TO AVOID
BAD DRIVING HABITS TO AVOID
A lot of accident on the road are caused by avoidable bad driving habit drinking while driving, not obeying traffic signs, using your phone while driving among all others, listed below are other bad habit that we need to correct on the road
Distracted Driving
Distracted driving is any activity that involves drivers looking away from the road, including talking, eating and adjusting the radio – but smartphones have taken distracted driving to a new level. Quite a lot of people were killed in distracted driving accidents. Cell phone use poses a special threat because it involves high-attention activities like texting, surfing the internet, and even taking selfies while driving. Using cell phones while driving is so pervasive (and deadly) that drivers of all ages are pledging to not text and drive.
Driving While Tired
Driving while tired has similar effects as drunk driving: slower reaction times, decreased awareness and impaired decision making. Drowsy driving also includes falling asleep behind the wheel, which can be fatal even if it only lasts a few seconds. Commercial drivers and young drivers are more likely to drive tired. Drinking coffee, listening to music or opening a window can help energize drivers; so can pulling over to a safe area and taking a short nap
Driving too fast for the road condition
If it starts to rain and the road get slippy don’t rely on your vehicle’s stability and safety systems to keep you on the road – they are fallible when pushed beyond their limits too. Do the sensible thing and slow down to a speed that is appropriate for the road conditions.
Changing Lanes Without Signaling
In heavy traffic, using your blinker to signal a lane change is a necessity; without it, other drivers won’t know your intention. When traffic is light, though, it’s easier to be lazy about turning it on. You may or may not be pulled over for this infraction, but good habits begin with good communication, regardless of conditions or laws
Not Having Your Headlights On
Obviously you need headlights for nighttime driving, but you may not always think to pop them on at dusk or in bad weather. Just remember to over communicate while driving and in this case, headlights advertise your presence as well as help you navigate. Laws vary on when to use headlights, but if there’s any question, don’t hesitate: It’s as easy as flipping a switch.
Skipping the Queue
Having to deal with a long queue of cars is frustrating for everyone that’s stuck in one, including you. With that being said, it’s never a good idea to just overtake everyone and then barge your way in. If you’re on the receiving end of someone’s rudeness and impatience, be the bigger person and let them sneak in in front of you. That’s a way better outcome than causing a multi-car pileup, isn’t it?
