INSIDE LIFE WITH GBEMI: SUGAR RUSH

 SUGAR RUSH!!!

I'm not referring to the Nollywood movie. Sugar rush is a sudden and brief burst of energy supposedly experienced after the consumption of food or drink with a high sugar content. Consumption of sugary foods may give you those sudden bouts of energy, however, they will last for around 30-40 minutes. Blood sugar spikes are caused when a simple sugar known as glucose builds up in your bloodstream.

Symptoms like dizziness, alertness and high energy are said to be associated with the increase of sugar rush. After the consumption of sugary foods, the body produces high sose of insulin to reduce the level of sugar in the blood. Once the sugar rush comes to an end (sugar crash), it causes low sugar levels in the blood which tends to make you feel hungry even after eating sugary foods. The body requires more energy to digest sugary foods hence, leaving you with less energy which results into fatigue.

If you have eaten too much sugary foods, drink water or any other sugar-free drinks. Focus more on eating whole foods without added sugar. Stop eating processed sugar-filled foods and drinks. Engage in simple exercises to keep the blood flowing.
