FASHION TABLE WITH STEPHANIE: UNDERSTANDING YOUR BODY SHAPE

UNDERSTANDING YOUR BODY SHAPE

Basically, there are five (5) body shapes that everyone fits into. Some people have more but they're all derivatives from these fundamental five (5).

1. Triangle (Pear) shape
2. Inverted triangle (Apple) shape
3. Hourglass (Figure 8) shape
4. Oval (Orange) shape
5. Rectangle (Banana) shape

Let's just give a little preview on the defining characteristics of these shapes, so that you can know your body shape and style yourself or a client appropriately.

1.Triangle (Pear) shape: These people have small bust size and big hips. The hips don't have to be large, but there should be a major difference when you compare it with the bust size.

2. Inverted triangle shape: These people have a large upper torso and small hips. The bust and shoulders are the bigger part when compared to the hips and butt.

3. Hourglass (figure 8) shape: This is the most ideal shape and it's basically what every stylist tries to achieve. Here the bust and hip size are either the same or really close and they have a defined waistline (the waist circumference is waaayyyyyyy smaller than the bust and hip size).

4. Oval (Apple) shape: These people ehn, they are round in the middle (that's the easiest way to put it). Their most defining feature is their "not-defined" waist line which overshadows their bust and hip size.

5. Rectangle (Banana) shape: First off, I don't know why they call it "Banana" shape though, these people aren't bent. I would have preferred it as cucumber or sugarcane shape or something. This is the standard shape, not ideal oooo, but standard. Most mannequins you see, if not all are rectangle shaped. They aren't too curvy, but they have a balanced hip and bust size. They do not have a really defined waistline though, that's where they're different from the Hourglass.

Now that we've acquainted ourselves with the basic body shapes, we'll continue next week with how to style the different body shapes.

Ask any question(s) or relay any message(s) in the comment section or send me a dm. I'm waiting for your feedback guys.
