NEW YEAR INSPIRATION

The year is into full swing already Tellrheaders, but for all we have missed so far, I wish you a Happy New Year. There are a lot of things that come with the new year - resolutions, tasks etc. However, one must be inspired to achieve.

For inspiration, where do you look?

Lets take you back to the 70's, 1976 to be precise. The first movie of the Rocky series was born, produced out of a brilliant manuscripts written by a film actor who was struggling financially and had his backyard problems to solve. The actor and writer of this wonderful piece wrote the first manuscript in under twenty hours, after seeing the boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner. That actor/writer is Sylvester Stallone and today the Rocky franchise ( if I may call it so) is a recognized international movie with great acclaims, enough to earn Stallone a place in the International Boxing Hall of Fame in a non-commissioned for playing the role of Rocky.

When Stallone wrote the first of the Rocky series, he was offered up to $300000, if not more, for an outright sale of the script. He refused an outright sale and insisted to act as the character he created - Rocky Balboa. That was some huge money. What would you do if you were Stallone?

A man with a vision is a hard one to stop. They talk on the sale dragged on but Stallone held on, convinced in his creation, believing in his ability even though the director and producers had a stereotype hero ready to choose between two other known actors. Stallone talked funny, they said, but to him it didn't matter. At last, a settlement was reached and Stallone had to take a massive pay cut, even in his role, to star as Rocky Balboa.

There ends our little story for today. Next time, we will begin with the Rocky series proper. I hope you were inspired to believe in yourself and your creation.
