FASHION TABLE; HOW TO MAKE SATIN/SILK BONNETS

HOW TO MAKE SATIN/SILK BONNETS

You see, I have a major problem, I don't really trust the quality of a lot of things sold outside, this coupled with my kati kati (I can do this and I can do that) attitude.
It's not good sometimes (I know), but it has helped me pick up a few things on the way; like how to make satin bonnets.

Materials needed
- 1 yard of Satin/Silk fabric
- 1 yard of elastic band
- Thread
- Sewing machine of course (except you want to hand sew sha)
- Measuring tape
- A piece of chalk (anything to make dots with actually)
- 2 safety pins

Cutting of the bonnet
- Cut out 28 X 28 inches out of the satin/silk fabric
-Fold the cut out from your fabric into two halves and then fold it in two again (fold it in two halves twice, you can count four layers from one side if done properly)
-Measure 14 inches on both sides from the apex, mark each point and then use your chalk to draw a curve that connects both dots.
(We're using 14 inches so that we can get a really large bonnet to accommodate a large afro or long weaves)
- Cut out the quarter circle following the line you drew to connect the points.
When you open it up, you'll get a large circle 🔵
- Repeat the process, following the above steps to get another circle with the fabric (this will be the lining of the bonnet).
- Cut the elastic band at 22 or 23 inches depending on the size of your head, I usually use 22 or 23 inches, to avoid making it too tight ( You don't want to tie your brain, do you?).

Procedure
- Place the right side of both circles on each other (meaning the wrong side of the top circle is facing you, and the wrong side of the second circle is facing the top of the table) and sew them round, but don't sew it shut, leave a space of about 2 inches open.
- Turn the joined circles inside out, with both right sides out now.
- Sprinkle water (emphasis on sprinkle my people, don't douse or soak the fabric with water please) on the fabric; for those of us not using steam pressing irons and iron both sides down.
- Take the fabric back to the sewing machine and then sew round once more, atleast 1 inch away from the edge (this depends on the size of the elastic band you want to use).
-Sew this second seam shut guys.
- Pin one end of your elastic band to the opening you left when making the first seam to join both circles.
- Pin the second end of the elastic band and draw it through the 1 inch space between both seams.
- After drawing the band out, the bonnet is formed already and it leaves one last step.
- Join both ends of the band and then hand sew the 2 inch space you left shut.

Your Satin/Silk Bonnet is ready!!!

You could either use Satin or Silk, they both do the same work on or for your hair, but Satin is more adviceable, just because it's a cheaper fabric that gets the job done.
