TUESDAY TALKS WITH GBEMI : Know Your Rights (2)

Tuesday Talks with Gbemi
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!!! (PART 2)
Hello guys, welcome to today's edition of Tuesday Talks With Gbemi.
Today I'll be rounding up the discussion on the fundamental human rights of a Nigerian, which I started last week.
The first fundamental human right I'll be discussing today is the Right to Personal Liberty. This right is the freedom to live at one chooses without any restriction from the government and/our it's agencies. Our is the right not to be subjected to imprisonment, arrest or other physical coercion without any legal justification. Every individual have the right to engage in any useful occupation, acquire knowledge, get married and have children, live freely without any bodily restraint. Under the constitution, every individual is entitled to his personal liberty e and no person should be deprived of this right except in special circumstances arms in accordance to the law. This means any person arrested and held in prison without being formally charged for a crime. Such a person who has no formal charges against him should be released on bail.
Another fundamental human right is the Right to Fair Hearing. The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria guarantees a person the right to fair hearing within a reasonable time by a court or other tribunal established by law in determination of his/her civil rights and obligations including a question or determination by or against any government or authority. The law provides grounds for impartial hearings and also public fair hearings within a reasonable time by the court or tribunal and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
There is also the Right to Private and Family Life. This right ensures and protects the privacy of citizens, their homes, correspondence, telephone communications and even social media communication. The right also makes sure that agencies do not tap into one's phone conversations or break into one's house for an unwarranted search. So you have the right to ask the police for a search warrant before they come in to search your property.
Furthermore, we have the right to Freedom of Thought, Conscience and Religion. Everyone have a right to his thoughts, conscience and the right to belong to any religion he chooses. The law provides grounds for secularity on Nigeria. Nobody should be forced to partake in any religion practice outside his own.
Also, there is the Right to Freedom From Discrimination. No person should be subjected to any form of discrimination, disability or deprivation by reason of his/her community background or ethnic group,  place of origin, sex, religion or political opinion. There are cases where people are being discriminated based on their ethnic group and sex. This shouldn't be, everyone should be accorded the respect they deserve.
Finally, there's the Right to Acquire and Own Immovable Property Anywhere in Nigeria. We all have the right to own any immovable property in any part of Nigeria. You can decide to own a lake, land property, etc. But remember to do that legally.
Apart from the fundamental human rights discussed above and previously, there are many other rights citizens of Nigeria are entitled to. However, while these rights are there to guide us, they should not be ussed to violate the rights of others. That's it for today guys. Be sure to drop your comments and don't forget to join me next week on another scintillating edition of Tuesday Talks With Gbemi.
