AUTOCARE WITH DAMILARE: Car Smoke and What it Means

CAR SMOKE AND WHAT IT MEANS

Hi TTB followers, welcome to Autocare

One of the ways to know the well-being of your car is from the colour of the exhaust, if the emission of the exhaust is nearly undectable your car engine is operating well, but if the exhaust smoke is visible it indicates the car is malfunctioning and it takes a skilled auto technician (mechanic) to work on it.

If your car emits any smoke upon starting the engine and clears up as the engine warms to operating temperature don't worry that is normal for some cars, but if smoke continues after the warm up, there's cause for concern.
The colour of the smoke indicates the type of problem of the engine

Blue or Grey smoke: Thick blue or Grey smoke indicates the vehicle is burning oil, that shows oil has found its way into the combustion chamber, Oil is escaping from its intended passageways within the
engine and is being burned along with fuel, this will, cause an increase in hydrocarbon emission. The smart thing to do would be to take the car in to have any worn or damaged seals repaired.

Causes- malfunctioning valve stem seal, failed piston rings.

White smoke: White exhaust smoke often happens when an engine burns coolant that was leaked into the combustion chamber, because of leaks in the head gasket. The white smoke is serious If there appears to be a cracked cylinder head. It also indicates the car is overheating, it must be rectified immediately or you risk buying a new engine.

Causes- blown head gasket, damaged cylinder head, cracked engine block.

Black smoke: Thick black smoke suggests that the engine is being flooded with gasoline, it may also show that the return fuel line is obstructed, another reason is that your engine is burning too much or more fuel than air. Two of the most common reasons for these are malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator or leaky or clogged fuel injectors.

Causes- Bad fuel pressure regulator, leaky or clogged fuel injectors, clogged or dirty air filter.

When you observe any of these smoke from the car exhaust, book a mechanic to thoroughly inspect it as soon as possible, it will save you lot of money that way.
