Alkali Amana's Board: GANAJA

GANAJA

Wednesday!!!

Today we have a piece on Ganaja by a writer who chose to extend his knowledge on the environment - Pius Ujadu Abakpa. read on Ganaja below...

The world is increasingly growing her quest to attain a perfect and total peace. Man,  across all strata of his engagement is developing different mechanism to aid the realization of this,  from his individual interactions,  to the level of governance and leadership. This course has led to approaches that differ and as such has led to ideological difference and factions.

As we continue to work as men and women who seek a development through conscious and deliberate efforts, we must note that our innovative approaches stamps on us the indication that we are courageous and consistent in our efforts. It is however a trite calling for us,  to,  with all sense of exigency recall villages and Communities, Towns and Cities,  States and Nations who are being beaten hard by unavailability of social welfare services and institutions inadequacy of facilities and under/unemployment , not by their failure to act or seek development but by the undoing of those they have entrusted their safety and development to.

So Ganaja, is one of the oldest communities located in Ajoakuta Local Government Area, it has been in existence for the past two decades, it is surrounded by rivers Niger and Benue, it is also covered by mountains. It is a town that is filled with ill structured schools, churches, mosques, failed power supply, lack of access to clean drinking water, deplorable roads, market stalls, night clubs, hotels, drinking spots and poverty.

The streets in the community are filled with children who hawk goods in order to earn a living for their families, the town harbors criminals who parade themselves as cultists and thieves, their activities have shattered many families. The community is ruled by a traditional chief know as the Ajanah of Ganaja.
The story of ganaja is centred on the lack of government presence and the social status of its people, lack of government presence has impoverished the community. It has made them appear like second class citizens, they now think it is a crime to vote during the elections and get impoverishment as a reward for their patriotism, they have lost faith in the government. The entrepreneurs are finding it difficult to keep their business together, they operate in an environment that is unfavorable.
Unemployed youths are roaming the streets of the town they have now resort to gambling, if asked they will say it is the only means of earning a living to keep the body and soul together, they curse their fate out of visible frustration. Efforts to bring government presence to the community has failed, they are tired of broken promises. Both the elders and the youths now sing one song of question?
From where shall Ganaja be free?
