During the week, the carabao cup (the English league cup) served up some interesting match ups.
West ham recorded an emphatic 8 nil beating of lowly Macclesfied town, Arsenal beat Brentford 3 goals to 1, Manchester City dispatched Oxford  United 3 nil, while an Eden Hazard inspired solo effort led Chelsea past Liverpool at Anfield to move to the next round. A couple of upsets were recorded first Burton Albion dumped Burnley out of the tournament with a 2-1 victory, but the upset of the round was saved for Manchester United who were knocked out of the competition by championship side Derby at Old Trafford after going down 8-7 on Penalties a game in which rookie manager Frank lampard defeated the special one and his old boss Jose Mourinho.

Football club Barcelona have unveiled plans to update certain areas on their logo to a new design, this update is coming since the last one in 2002 and the new designs have already been approved by the board and need only be ratified by the members to be made official. This will see the “F.C.B” lettering on the logo removed making the ball bigger and the number of stripes reduced.

Meanwhile having dumped Liverpool out of the league cup less than three days ago Chelsea will hope to get another one over their rivals from Merseyside when both teams clash for the 2nd time in 4 days in the premiere league in the late kick off game on Saturday. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will aim to have his team bounce back after a defeat in midweek which knocked them out of the league cup, Klopp will be expected to name what should resemble a full strength xi with defender Virgil Van Dijk (rib complaint) the only major doubt for the game at Stamford bridge today.
