LUNG CANCER : Health With Moses

Hi and welcome to another episode of Health with Moses concern morden diseases and which way out, today we will be discussing about lung cancer..

It became of great importance to educate us about the risk and cost effects of smoking on our body system, but first let's discuss what is lungs cancer

*Introduction*:

Lung cancer, also known as lung carcinoma, is a malignant lung tumor characterized by uncontrolled
cell growth in tissues of the lung. This growth can spread beyond the lung by the process of
metastasis into nearby tissue or other parts of the body.

Now let's discuss the type of lung cancers:

1)  Small cell lung cancer (SCLC)
About 12 out of every 100 lung cancers diagnosed are this type (12%). It is usually caused by smoking. These cancers tend to spread quite early on.

2)  Non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)
About 87 out of 100 lung cancers in the Nigeria (87%) are non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). They are three common types. They are mostly grouped together because they behave in a similar way and respond to treatment in a similar way.
So we will not bother with their sub divisions.

*Symptoms*:

1)  Respiratory symptoms: coughing, coughing up blood, wheezing , difficulty or shortness of breath

2)  Systemic symptoms: weight loss, weakness ,
fever , or clubbing of the fingernails

3)  Others include :
chest pain, bone pain ,
superior vena cava obstruction, or difficulty swallowing

*Note*: This symptoms individually does not indicate lung cancer,

*Risk* *factors*:

1) Family History of Lung Cancer

2) Smokers

3) Second hand smoker( those who do not smoke but are constantly exposed to cigarette smoke)

4) Air pollution

5)  Radiation Therapy to the Breast or Chest

6)  Exposure to Asbestos & Other Workplace Carcinogens

7)  Exposure to Radon(Radon is a colorless, tasteless, and odorless gas that is produced by decaying uranium)

8)  Age

*Treatment*:

1) Surgery approach,
2) chemotherapy approach,
3) radiotherapy approach,

*Note*:
For diagnosis, proper management and prognosis see a *doctor*

But a general rule of thumb to my dear readers stay away form the risk factors, as a healthy lung is a healthy respiratory system and a healthy life..
