FASHION TABLE WITH STEPHANIE: UNDERSTANDING YOUR BODY SHAPE 2
We need to understand that some styles that look great on some people might not fit us. It's not the tailor or designer's fault, it's yours. The designer probably told you, "this style will not fit you ooo" but you probably stubbornly pressed for it and said "just say you don't know how to make it". Sometimes they actually don't know how to make the style sha.
Always have it in my that every style must balance your shape or else you won't achieve the ideal look.
Triangle shape:
Here the bust is small, so the style must make the part of the body brighter or have more accessories than the bottom. Straight skirts and gowns are for these people. Puff sleeves look amazing here, if you're going to mix the fabric with bright colours it should be at the top. Feel free to pad their busts here to make them look more obvious. Say no to gathers or flay skirts or big skirts in general.
Inverted triangle shape:
The plan here is to take all emphasis from the top because the bust and shouldees are already way bigger than the hips and butt.
Gathers, flay and pleated skirts or dresses are for these people. They need manipulation on their skirts or dresses, at the side or from the waist; peplums, ruffles, beads, a train, etc. Bright colours should be below too. They should wear Palazzo trousers, boyfriend jeans, joggers, etc.
Say no to fitted bottoms; skirts or dresses or trousers, no to pencil skirts, a big no to puff sleeves or any extravagant sleeve sef.
Hourglass shape:
These guys have the ideal shape remember, so the work here isn't much. Styles that upset the balance aren't for them. Fitted gowns, pencil dresses, body con apparels, plain colours, fitted jeans are for them. Almost everything goes with them sef. Say no to empire gowns though, don't overpad their bust or anything. No troible here.
Oval shape:
These guys don't have a defined waist, kinda round in the middle, so the plan is to hide the waist line or the stomach. Give them empire gowns, manipulation in the middle; peplums, ruffles, etc. Details should be at the top and bottom of their clothes. Pad the bust and the hips and the butt, then take attention away from the stomach. Run away from fitted clothew except you are going to add a peplum to the waist.
Rectangle shape:
The main thing to do here is to help define the waist. Tommy belts are for these people, add bands to the waistline of their clothes to make their waist look smaller. Add manipulations to both top and bottom and say no to fitted clothes if you aren't going to use a waist trainer beneath or a belt on top.
Let's not deceive ourselves, we aren't all in the "Figure 8" category, so let's help ourselves and work accordingly. Don't pick styles that don't flatter you, then blame your designer when you look like a sack of potatoes.
Ask any question(s) or relay any message(s) in the comment section or send me a dm. I'm waiting for your feedback guys.
