LIFE AS IT IS: Peace
PEACE
1.
Death, it made you feel cold. Powerless, breathless, empty. You watched your father go down like a bag of potatoes. You watched his breath slip out of him, his eyes blank. You didn't cry, you couldn't, you only whimpered. You released a ragged breath, you knew who was next. It was you.
.
They dragged you to the hang-rope, your legs bruised, your feet sore. You watched a man stand on a podium giving orders. You felt the rope on your neck but your gaze were glued to him, your eyes to his, unblinking you whispered "I will be back for you". You felt your soul leave your body, you felt cold, empty but you eyes remained glued to the man's.
.
You watched your body fall down from one side of the room, your bruised knees hitting a board. You felt something on your face, "Do spirit cry?" you wondered as you brushed the feeling with your palm.
.
You stared back at the man who caused you and your family pain, you felt angry, darkness burned within you. You repeated your vow "I will be back for you".
.
Nine months later, you were born in another country to a woman of fifty-four who had been barren all her life.
2.
"Shit!" you mutter to yourself as you heard that the man who persecuted and murdered you and family died six month ago. You heard he died of a carriage incident. You don't feel happy, you feel bitter, angry, betrayed. You think karma has messed with you, you feel God has played a prank on you. Your eyes lands on a glass cup and you pick it up and smash it to the wall. You heard he has son, you plan to kill him.
.
You enter your murderer home, it looks empty, beautiful but lifeless. No sign of life, no one big happy family picture on wall; just dark walls. Gloomy?, dead? yes! dead; that's the word, you think. No sign of happiness or a well played ground, everything look neat and spotless.
.
You enter a bedroom, beautiful but dead; all the furnishings looks expensive. His widow lay on the bed, her face bruised but healing, around her are bottles of alcohol. She snores loudly. You did not come for her, you came for the baby; you remind yourself with a slight tap on the head.
.
You hear a loud cry at an opposite room, you walk to it; your legs avoiding bottles on the way. You enter a room "Here lays the baby" you mutter in a singsong voice. You watch him as he cries, your face in a frown.
.
He lay his eyes on you, your gazes unblinking. He stops crying and raise his hands to you in a smile. You stare at him for a minute, you blink rapidly feeling the tears on your face.
.
You sing him a lullaby, you soothe him. He sleeps.
