FASHION TABLE WITH STEPHANIE: UNDERSTANDING YOUR BODY SHAPE FOR MEN (part 2)

UNDERSTANDING YOUR BODY SHAPE FOR MEN (part 2)

It's painful how sometimes you spend your hard earned money to get an outfit; it looks great on the mannequin, looks even better in the bag you're taking it home in but it doesn't look half as good on you. Sometimes you end up tossing it in the back of your closet or it ends up in another person's closet.

Just as the shape of your face determines your haircut, your body shape should determine how you dress. It should take precedence over fashion trends.

Now that you know your body shape, let's talk about the dos and don'ts.

1. Oval body shape: With the wide waist, you'd want clothes that make the bulky part of your torso look narrow and slim you down.
That means clothes with horizontal stripes are out of tge picture, bright colours are also a no-no for this category. Checkered patterns and vertical lines are fine. Use the normal "slimming" dark shades for colours, it doesn't have to be black though, as long as it's not shouty.
Tailor made pants (with very good fitting) paired with dark coloured long-sleeved shirts tend to make your limbs look longer and hide the wide waist.

2. Triangle body shape: These guys already look "bottom-heavy", so the goal is to make the upper half look bulky and narrow down the lower half. Same as Oval shaped guys, stick with dark colours and vertical stripes, avoid horizontal patterns like a plague.

3. Rectangle body shape: With shoulders in perfect alignment with the waist and hips, the main point of emphasis here is the shoulder.
Fortunately there are hardly any rules here, you can play with colours and patterns.
The plan though is to avoid looking like a matchbox, so avoid vertical stripes, they make you look straight and exaggerate the rectangular shape.

4. Trapezoid body shape: These guys are blessed with the easiest body shape to work with. Industry standards for off the rack clothing are usually fit to this body shape. Just put any well fitting outfit on with a touch of bravery and you're good to go.

5. Inverted triangle body shape: This shape is super top heavy, just think "Johnny Bravo" (I'm exaggerating sha). Most articles can work here, but there's a complication here. With a bigger upper body, clothes that fit the shoulder tend to sag around the abdomen.
The goal here is to remove eyes from the shoulders, this can be done by wearing colourful belts or stripes, V-necks draw the eyes to the chest instead of the shoulders and polos make the shoulders look smaller. These bring a sense a balance to the body shape.

Ask any question(s) or relay any message(s) in the comment section or send me a dm. I'm waiting for your feedback guys.
