LETTER TO ME- JANE TESTS ( END OF CHAPTER ONE)

JANE'S TESTS

Malach unfolded his arms and clutched his sword. What was this ugly steam filled demon doing here? He had fought Anger before many times, and won. But that made Anger all the more vexed.

“Hello Malach” He grinned and fumes came out of his nostrils. He was like a hideous looking chimney. “Go ahead then. Draw your sword. Nothing will give me greater pleasure".

Malch balled his fists and took a step forward. He looked at Jane, if only she knew she wasn’t talking to Arnold this moment. He looked up at Anger again. One punch and he would send him flying across the room.
---------------------
Arnold was out of his seat and out of control
“More. What do you mean more? Would you have been able to afford the apartment? What about the job at the research institute? How much does that make you, five figures? That’s asides the allowances I give you”.

The whole restaurant had gone quiet. One of the waiters, the one who had attended to Jane earlier, was on his way to their table, with a man in tow that looked like the restaurant’s manager. Arnold didn’t seem to care.

“And now you say you want more? More what, exactly? I dress up to look good. For you. I take you out on dates, to expensive places like this to make you happy. I do things for you that if I did for other ladies, they would worship me. And you are demanding more?”

Jane couldn’t believe her ears. Had Arnold just compared her to other ladies? They would worship him? she looked up at him with tears in her eyes. He exchanged a brief word with the waiter and took his seat. Lord, what am I supposed to do now?

Let go.

He’s all I’ve ever known. Maybe he’s right; maybe I’m nagging him too much. There has to be a way to settle this without it having to come to that.

Let go.

“I’m sorry I can’t worship you” Jane replied calmly. She struggled to keep the tears from betraying her.

Let it all go.

“By morning, I’ll move back to the dorm. I’ll leave the key with the guard in front. By week’s end, I’ll turn in my resignation at the research center” Her voice was breaking now. But her heart broke more.

“I’ve been saving all my allowances. I’ll have that refunded in the morning too.” A tear streaked down her cheek. She wiped it with her left hand and continued “Thank you so much for everything Arnold. Goodbye.”

With that, Jane stood up and ran out of the restaurant before she would let out a cry. She ran for many miles…
-------------------
… And Malach followed behind faithfully.
