OFFSIDE WITH JEROME ( FOOTBALL)

Hello TTB Lovers, it’s been ages on the section, first off I want to apologize to our followers as OFFSIDE WITH JEROME has not been running for quite a while,
This week I’ll be focusing on:
The Video Assistant Referees (VAR) effect.
Super Eagle of the Week.
This past week received a once inconceivable buzz around football generally as the 2nd leg of the UEFA champions league was played out in Europe. But whether it owed to
the brilliance of Lionel Messi or to the kill Joy strength of the VAR it only furthered the point that the champions league is one of if not the most exciting football competitions ever.

One of the most entertaining match ups was played out at the Etihad stadium when Manchester city beat Tottenham 4-3 on the night and still crash out of the competition on away goals rule, crazy right? But the major talking points of the tie was the influence of the video assistant referees. Introduced to the UEFA champions this season VAR brought with it (for Tottenham at least) all the luck the universe could muster as Fernando Llorente’s goal stood amidst suspicions of handball as Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir after due consultations deemed the ball to have come off the striker’s hip. There were to be more twists though as Raheem Sterling thought he had scored the clincher for city only for the VAR to chalk off the goal as Sergio Aguero was deemed to have been offside in the build-up.
Now Eredevise heavyweights Ajax are aiming for their first continental trophy since 1995 when they first travel to the Tottenham hotspur stadium on April 30th for the first leg of the tie while Barcelona first host last year’s beaten finalist’s Liverpool on the 1st of May at the Nou camp.

The Super Eagle of the Week is SAMUEL CHUKWUEZE.
Samuel Chukwueze is a 19 year old Nigerian football sensation who plies his trade for Spanish side Villareal. He was a former golden eaglets star noted for being part of the victorious eaglet’s team that won the 2015 tournament in Chile as well as winning the bronze boot.
The precocious talent earlier in April won the NFF award as best young Nigerian player for 2018. Chukwueze is currently the only Nigerian in the top 5 European leagues to have 5 or more league goals to his name, and at 19 is already being touted as the next big star to come from the shores of a proud West African giant. He made his Super Eagle’s debut by playing in the first half against Uganda in a friendly in November 2018 and big things are expected of this young talent.

That’s a wrap for the week as I promise to be more consistent and timely, join me next week on OFFSIDE WITH JEROME.
