LIFE AS IT IS: Patriotic You Say
Patriotic, you say!
Welcome to the 24 day of 2019 and congratulations to everyone who made it. It's 23 days to election and i guess while some people have chosen sides, some others are still on the fence.
This piece is for all of us.
My immediate elder sister is a Burharist. When election was conducted about four years ago, she had to go collect our neighbour's radio because ours was faulty and there was no power. Up till this day she has been loyal. You could see evidence of this on social media as she is like a lioness protecting her cub. My other siblings and i often joke she should change her surname to Buhari.
Sometimes i believe she's quite crazy but it makes me respect her more. For her to believe even when others aren't and keep going through this path is something am envious about.
When that election was conducted, i'm going to be honest and say i wasn't in support of anybody. I was this and still young guy who wanted the best for his country. My dad had told us stories and some good about the APC candidate when he was head of state and i guess a little part wanted to see how it was going to be in my time.
That was years ago and like everyone who is alive today, we see what's going on today. I am a believer that Rome wasn't built in a day and i also believe they were steps carried out before it was built. I also want to believe that every beginning has an end. Note that these are my believe and mine alone. If you decide to think this way, it's your choice.
I would not threaten you to think like i do. If i decide to persuade you to, it would comes with reasons and after this, the rest is up to you.
Let's take a moment and look within ourselves.
Answers this questions
1. Do you love your country and think it could be better or do you agree with people who think the country is already doomed?
2. Why did you decide on this particular candidate you are voting for?
Number one question may be quite easy for you, after all nobody would deny not loving his/her country. But then this question may come with answers that makes us want to cry our guts out.
Number two question can be tricky. Deciding a candidate may have to do with your family or your friends.
It may also have to do with how much you have benefitted from this person personally. What does that make you?
Always try to remember that things such as country matter shouldn't be done personally.
Vote for the right person. Someone who would not only be beneficial to you but the whole country. Note, that sometimes your instinct may be wrong so have discussion with people without it leading to argument (insulting your generations) or fights.
Remember, even if you are being paid to vote for a particular person, the money is going to be gone at one point.
I know you probably must have this from different sources and being told by different people, in different ways everyday but i guess there is nothing wrong in hearing it from us at TellRhodes Blog.
Be wise, be truthful, be humble and be patriotic.
Peace
