On this week’s round up in the world of sport. I will bring you updates from all over Europe as well as a few exciting news on the international scene.
Headlines:
- Manchester city play keep up in the early English premier league title race
- Barcelona and Real maintain perfect starts while Athletico Madrid stumble again
- Juventus keep winning but Ronaldo remains goalless in serie A
- Nigeria set to play Seychelles in Victoria

Let’s begin from the English premier league where defending champions Manchester city recorded a 2-1 victory at home over Newcastle to ensure the stay close to early pacesetters Liverpool, Watford and Chelsea all with 100% records so far this season after they secured slim wins over Leicester and Bournemouth respectively. Elsewhere Arsenal recorded a hard-fought 3-2 away victory over new boys Cardif while Manchester united bounced back from back to back losses with a 2-0 win over Burnley at turf moor while Tottenham failed to build on their last game’s victory over Manchester united by falling to a 2-1 loss to season surprise packages Watford.

In the Spanish league Lionel Messi once again showed is importance to Barcelona, scoring and assisting twice in leading them to an 8-2 whitewash of newly promoted Huesca at camp nou while Karim Benzema showed there was life after Cristiano Ronaldo with a brace of goals to propel Real Madrid to a 4-1 win over Leganes at home. Athletico Madrid failed to keep up with big wins secured by the classic giants as they stumbled to 0-2 defeat at celta de vigo.

Juventus won their third straight serie A game of the new season away at lowly Parma but Portugal international Ronaldo had no luck in finding the net in the game and endured his 3rd barren appearance since his move from Real Madrid. He will get another chance to break his duck for his new team when they square up to face Sassuolo at home in their next league encounter.
On the international scene Nigeria will attempt to get their AFCON qualifiers back on track after losing to South Africa last time out with a win as they visit 188th ranked Seychelles on Saturday 8th September in Victoria.
Amazing statistics for the week
Cristiano Ronaldo has failed to find the back of the net for Juventus despite attempting a league high 23 shots on goal.
Leicester City are the first English team to have 3 Algerians score for them in the league After Rachid Ghezal scored in their last game (also Rhiyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani)
Lionel Messi has scored against 37 of the 40 teams he has faced in the Spanish la liga. The highest of any player ever.
