GROWING UP: HAMZ MUSINGS

GROWING UP

Good day leaders of thought and welcome on board to Hamz's Musing.

Today, let's talk something that thrive among us an individual. You see, when I was a child I got to understand that, eventually, I would become an adult. Growing up is an inevitable process. Not a conscious process.

As I grew, however, I realised that real growth into manhood and maturity isn't an inevitable process. It is a conscious decision.

Becoming a man didn't start on a physical level. It began on a mental level. It began with THINKING like a man. And thinking like a man began when I realised that I had been thinking like a child and that these kinds of thoughts were incompatible with the new place I wanted to assume in life; that these kinds of thoughts needed to be discarded and exchanged for better ones.

You see, in some areas of my life, I remained a child, even till I got to 20. It wasn't a matter of age. It was a matter of thinking. In essence, my inability or unwillingness to let go of my way of thinking as a child only ensured that I remained a child in the body of an adult. My liberation to unlimited growth only began when I gave up the faulty belief systems that moulded my childish outlook on life.

That is why it is possible to have a teenager that is regarded as a person of invaluable wisdom, and have a 50-year old that is regarded as a nuisance.

It all begins with THINKING- thinking your way out of childhood, into manhood. Of course, sound thinking is a product of the kind of information you allow into your mind. Growing, therefore, is also an indirect result of keeping an open mind, ready to be corrected, to learn, unlearn and relearn.

I am not quite the man I hope to be yet. But I am not the boy I used to be. And every day, I make a conscious decision to learn and to grow, so the boy I was would be proud of the man I am becoming.
How about you?
