Hallo fam welcome to another mindblowing episode of The Penmasters a place where readers meet writers!!!
Today we are taking a new direction not your usual short story but a very educative post from Miss Rebecca sanni a law student and writer... So its time to feed our minds read below.
THE EVILS OF MORDERNITY AND
            EUROCENTRISM
In a bid to not sound too archaic, I do believe our predecesors had tradition for a reason and as a result, things worked according to norms and practices. Unfortunately, our exposition to modernity has turned our thinking away from these traditions resulting into alot of things that we could have originally avoided if we just stuck to these traditions. It is not a bad thing to be educated or exposed but looking at it from my perspective, people only aim to know and not think. For instance, it was unheard of for a girl to openly express her feelings for a boy, rather the boy struggles to get the girl, that was how it was. Looking at the result of this struggle, we had relationships that lasted a life time because people tend to often cherish what they earned through struggle. In our present generation, people find it beautiful when a girl tells a guy how she feels. I for one consider  openness as a beauty and I try to promote it; I feel you should communicate always, say how you feel, even if you do not have the right words, say it as it is, do not hold back or compromise your feelings. When a girl , tells a guy she likes him, I feel she tells you because she wishes to know how you feel and also to know if there would be a chance for her. Her openess to you could also prompt you to feel the same way because it may draw you to her, I'm just giving instances, it may differ individually. So now, relationships like this could work, I'm not against it but if it starts to fail or shake along the line, the boy can fall back to the fact that, he did not initate the relationship, the girl walked up to him, therefore, he did not work for it like our predecessors would. People are very ignorant of the fact that a person is formed as a result of his or her experiences. You are a product of your past either good or bad. If a person is good, it is either because he has tasted goodness and feels a need to share it or because you know being bad does not pay. As a result of our exposure, we do not consider our fellow human beings rather , as long as we are happy, it is ok. We believe we should not care about how others feel so we can act anyhow as long as we are fine. People do not care and have repects for humanity anymore. I bet this would not have happened in the olden days where you worked for your wife or your wife is chosen by your parents. Would you say a reasonable fulani man after receiving several strokes before getting his wife would not repect her? I would say not because i believe there would be respect for both husband wife. Not also ruling out the responsibility of society, I do believe then, we had elders that settled disputes, promoted moral values and also gave advice on a lot of things. It was also uncommon to hear that teenagers went into early relationships, but these days, there's no such thing as too young, once you feel you can do it, give it a go!!! we feel because we are educated we can do anything, there's no stopping us. We see young people these days refering to themselves as mature because they understand a few principles, throwing aside that fact that,  "what an elder sees while sitting down, a child will not see even if he climbs a mountain". We see ourselves as gods in our own way which is fine, but after watching Perseus the other day, I learnt that even gods need humans to survive. So if everyone sees themselves as gods that can do anything, who becomes the human? Alot of good practices have been struck out because of our modernity as we see in our everyday life that people dont greet/help elders, people talk back at elders which I  find very disgusting. Alot of these observations are as a result of the fact that these are very rampant and we can only but pray for the best for our future generations.
